I went to the first round of barista competitions held at Coutume Cafe, and it was really remarkable to see some of the best roasters in France alongside the best baristas in France (and some from Belgium). Everyone came together over friendly competition. We pulled shots, we tasted espresso, we gave one another constructive criticism, and we relished in the idea of a new community.
With so few coffee outlets in France, true coffee lovers have united and are working to build a better coffee scene in France. There was much talk about opening new cafes in Paris and to other cities as well. A new cafe called Cafe Mokxa just opened up this year in Lyon that is brewing up some tasty coffee as well.
More than anything, I am ecstatic to have found a new coffee community. Home at last.
