However, there were no beaches involved. It rained most everyday I was there. The locals said it was the worst hurricane they have had in 15 years. The streets were flooded and crowded. We had to keep to the tourist-type area most of the time.
The upside (because there is always an upside) was spending time with my grandfather and mother. Each night, I got to tuck him into the beach lounge chair we brought inside for him to sleep on. Don't worry, we put couch cushions on it for him. He said it was quite comfortable. Also, I won $150 on a penny slot machine, and got to shop in cute french boutiques.
I fell in love with the island, the plentiful baguettes, fresh seafood, and with the snobbish french citizens who have claimed the island as their home.
