Fortunately for me, however, I seem to have good luck everywhere I go. I know it sounds egotistical and idealistic, but let me use some examples to prove my point. I left my homestay situation after three days, a seemingly irresponsible move, and afterwards I took the first apartment I saw. This grande apartment just happens to be near my three closest girlfriends in Paris! Literally around the corner.
And they are really fantastic. The other girls and I have gotten into the habit of trying a new Parisian restaurant every Friday night. We order a bottle of wine, have a lovely dinner, and in typical French fashion, hang out for an hour or two engaging in lively conversation. Yes there are four of us, yes one is a red head, yes we are in an interntional metropolis, but the similarities end there. We are not the girls from Sex and the City. We are much more fabulous!
Molly is from Ohio, lived in Chicago for the last three years working for Steppen Wolf. She is very tall, very sweet, and very giggly. Allison is the red head from Detroit, she has lived in Switzerland for two years working for a PR firm. Before that she was living in Paris, and she has been designated our unofficial tour guide. Tomorrow she is taking us shopping! Jenny is from Chicago, went to Miami University of Ohio. She is in the Fashion track of our Master's Program, and just got an internship working for Stella McCartney. We are all hoping she gets us tickets to Fashion Week. Cross fingers!
But with my good luck, it is bound to happen! I miss everyone from home and all of my wonderful friends in Chicago, but I am also happy to have found a welcoming community in a foreign land. Bon chance indeed!
