I wrote one of my papers on the history of the coffee trade and the emerging role of Starbucks as a globalizing actor, some of which I plan on posting soon. The second was a political theory class, in which I tied our lack of regulation of the global coffee economy to inequality in Rwanda, causing economic and political instability, and the subsequent genocide that ensued in 1994. After a solid two weeks of work, I was writing the paper up until ten minutes before class, and I am actually quite proud of it. For my first theory based paper, I don't think its too bad.
Not to toot my own horn. I have much to improve upon; however, I am oddly liking theory. Weird right? No one is supposed to like abstract ideas of what the world SHOULD be. It is much more useful to study how the world is, right? Meh. The world as it is can be quite depressing. Without theory, how would we make the world as it is closer to the world as we want it to be?
Enough theory. Time to celebrate the end of finals and get ready for India! I leave on Monday..
